Golfer's Elbow Treatment

Golfer's Elbow Treatment in Aurora, Ohio

Golfer's elbow causes pain on the inside of the elbow, and despite the name, you do not need to play golf to get it. It is a repetitive strain injury, so long days of the same motion at work can bring it on too. Dr. Nicholas Toumazos and Dr. Lauren Mayes treat golfer's elbow with StemWave therapy, one of the conditions they use it for most.

Inner Elbow Pain

What Is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer's elbow is the everyday name for medial epicondylitis, a repetitive strain injury felt on the inner side of the elbow. At our Aurora office we see it in weekend golfers at Aurora Country Club and in office workers who spend long hours at a desk. When it lingers, built up scar tissue can keep the area from healing on its own. Common signs include the following.

Pain or tenderness on the inside of the elbow

Pain that gets worse when gripping, lifting, or making a fist

Stiffness in the elbow or a weaker grip

Elbow pain that has not improved with rest, medication, or physical therapy

StemWave for Elbows

How Does StemWave Help Golfer's Elbow?

The StemWave handpiece delivers acoustic pulses into the irritated tendon on the inside of the elbow. That energy encourages cellular repair and increases blood flow to the area, without needles or incisions. Each session runs 10 to 15 minutes, and most patients head straight back to their day afterward.

Most plans run 8 to 12 sessions, weekly or every other week, set from your exam findings. The StemWave therapy page walks through the treatment in more detail.

Where Chiropractic Fits

Looking Up the Arm, Not Just at the Elbow.

Your exam covers the elbow along with the wrist, shoulder, and neck, the same whole-arm approach Dr. Toumazos uses for carpal tunnel. When the exam shows a joint higher up the arm is part of the problem, gentle, instrument-assisted Torque Release Technique adjustments are added, often in the same visit as your StemWave session. Golfers and other athletes can also see our sports chiropractic page for care built around your sport.

Golfer's Elbow Questions

What Aurora Patients Ask Us.

Location. Golfer's elbow hurts on the inside of the elbow, and tennis elbow hurts on the outside. Both are tendon problems brought on by repeated strain, and both are conditions we treat with StemWave therapy at our Aurora office.

Stubborn tendon pain that has not responded to rest, medication, or physical therapy is the kind of problem we use StemWave for. Your exam comes first, so the doctor can confirm the tendon is the source of your pain before treatment starts.

You will feel a firm, rhythmic tapping over the inner elbow. Where the tendon is most irritated it can feel uncomfortable for a moment, but each treatment lasts only 10 to 15 minutes and there is no recovery time afterward.

Arm pain is sometimes linked to problems higher up the chain, at the shoulder or neck. Checking the whole arm helps make sure your plan treats the actual source, whether that turns out to be the elbow tendon, a joint above it, or both.
