Why Families Bring Their Kids In
What Pediatric Chiropractic Care Can Help With.
Childhood is full of falls, growth spurts, and developmental milestones, all of which can affect a child's spine and nervous system. Dr. Mayes examines each child individually and uses only the light pressure appropriate for their age and size, never the force used on an adult adjustment.
Colic and excessive crying in infants
Recurring ear infections and sleep disturbances
Digestive issues and general fussiness
Scoliosis screening, headaches, and sports injuries in older kids
Growing pains as children move through developmental stages
Led by Dr. Lauren Mayes
Advanced Training, Built for Kids.
Dr. Lauren Mayes completed Life University's full advanced pediatric coursework track under a nationally respected ICPA-certified instructor, well beyond the standard chiropractic curriculum. That training shows up in how she works with children: a light touch for infants, playful and reassuring communication for toddlers, and straightforward, respectful conversation with teenagers about their own bodies and recovery. Parents are welcome to stay in the room for the entire visit, and Dr. Mayes explains every step before she takes it, so nothing about the visit feels like a surprise to your child. Many families who start with prenatal chiropractic care continue seamlessly into pediatric visits with the same doctor once their baby arrives.

Light, Age-Appropriate Touch
Pressure Adapted to Every Age and Stage.
From a light touch for infants to straightforward conversation with teenagers, Dr. Mayes adjusts her approach and pressure for every child. Parents are welcome to stay in the room for the entire visit.
Your Child's First Visit
What Happens at Your Child's First Appointment?
A first pediatric visit at Explore Family Chiropractic is a 3-part appointment: a parent conversation, a gentle exam, and, when appropriate, a light adjustment. First, Dr. Mayes reviews the child's birth history, development, and any specific concerns. Next comes the age-appropriate exam. For infants, that can mean checking for tension that developed during a difficult delivery. For older kids, Dr. Mayes looks at posture, spinal alignment, and how a recent fall or sports injury may be affecting movement. Finally, adjustments themselves take only a few minutes and use pressure closer to testing the ripeness of a tomato than anything resembling an adult adjustment. Most children tolerate visits well, and many look forward to seeing Dr. Mayes at follow-up appointments.

More on Pediatric Chiropractic Care.
The Explore Family Chiropractic health library is a set of full-length articles written for Aurora parents researching care for their kids, and 2 of those guides pair directly with this page. First, the benefits of a pediatric chiropractor article explains what gentle care can and cannot do for common childhood complaints. Next, the guide on supporting healthy growth and development walks through care stage by stage, from infancy through the teenage years. Each article reflects the same pediatric methods Dr. Mayes uses at the Aurora office.
