Spinal Decompression in Cleveland, Ohio
Patients from across Northeast Ohio with herniated discs, sciatica, or degenerative disc disease visit our Aurora office for non-surgical spinal decompression.
Overview
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression for Cleveland Patients
Herniated discs, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease do not always require surgery. Explore Family Chiropractic offers computerized spinal decompression therapy that gently relieves pressure on irritated discs and nerves. Our office is at 344 Aurora Commons Circle in Aurora; we do not have a Cleveland location, and patients from there come to us in Aurora for care.
How It Works
How Spinal Decompression Works
Our computerized spinal decompression table gently and precisely stretches the spine in cycles, creating negative pressure inside the targeted disc space. That negative pressure is designed to draw a herniated or bulging disc back away from the nerve root it has been pressing on, reducing inflammation and pain over a series of sessions.
Because the traction is computer-controlled, it is more precise than manual stretching, and most patients find sessions comfortable. Decompression is typically paired with chiropractic stabilization and core-strengthening rehabilitation so your spine is relieved of pressure and better supported once treatment is complete.
Conditions
Conditions We Use Decompression For
Each case is confirmed by an exam and imaging review before a single session is scheduled. Spinal decompression is used for:
Before Surgery
Before Considering Surgery
Back surgery carries real recovery time and real risk. Spinal decompression gives patients a non-surgical option to try first, with no incisions and no anesthesia. It is not right for every case: some conditions, such as a spinal fracture or certain types of instability, are not appropriate for decompression. Dr. Nicholas Toumazos reviews your imaging and history first and will refer you elsewhere if your case calls for different care.
First Visit
Your First Decompression Visit
Your first visit starts with a conversation about your pain and history, followed by a thorough exam and, when your case calls for it, imaging or a review of prior scans. If spinal decompression is the right fit, you recline fully clothed on the computerized table while it cycles between stretch and release for about 20 to 30 minutes. Most patients read, listen to music, or relax.
Dr. Toumazos builds your protocol, frequency, and session count around what your exam shows, and often layers in chiropractic adjustments and rehabilitation exercises.
Nerve Pain
Decompression and Nerve Pain
Spinal decompression is also part of our four-step neuropathy protocol when the spine itself is compressing a nerve root. If you have numbness or tingling along with back or neck pain, mention it at your first visit so we can look at the whole picture.
