A DOT physical at Explore Family Chiropractic is a 5-part exam covering everything the FMCSA requires. First come the screenings: vision, hearing, blood pressure, and pulse. Next, a urinalysis screens for underlying conditions. Then comes a hands-on physical exam of the heart, lungs, joints, and nervous system. Medical history and current medications are reviewed as well, since conditions like sleep apnea, diabetes, and heart disease all factor into certification. Finally, drivers who pass leave with a Medical Examiner's Certificate the same day.
How Often You Need One
Certification Lasts Up to 24 Months.
Most drivers who pass their exam without any flagged conditions receive a Medical Examiner's Certificate valid for up to 24 months. If you are managing a condition that needs closer monitoring, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, you may still qualify, just with a shorter certification window (as short as 3, 6, or 12 months) so we can check in on your progress before your next renewal.
